II Corinthians 4:5-7

"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."

"If ye abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you." John 15:7

How is it possible to twist or interpret those words to apply to "the sweet by and by"? You know very well that those words were intended to apply to this world for our here and now. Of course, we must observe that He laid down conditions with reference to that. There are two conditional clauses, "If ye abide in Me," and "If My words abide in you." That takes us back to the first commandment. Let us look more closely at those words and that one word, "abide," for instance. I am afraid that most of us are prone to think of it as to just sit or remain. But when we look at it a little more carefully, we find that it is the same as living. That is, we must live in Christ; we must be conscious of His Presence; we must realize the truth of His words when He said, "Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age" (Matt. 28:20). But when He used that word "abide" instead of "to live," it implied something more: that is, the Christ will become our house or dwelling place. What is a house? Does it not shield us from the storm and weather? Does it not keep out the beasts and the gangsters when we are asleep? Does it not enable us to find our rest and sleep in perfect confidence and peace of mind? Does it not give us room to move about and express ourselves in our own individual ways? Is it not that which enables us to live our own individual lives? Is it not in our house where the food is stored, and where we have facilities to prepare our meals, that we may live and enjoy ourselves according to our means and inclination?

You see, my friends, the Christ never spoke one word out of place.
