II Corinthians 4:5-7

"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."

"He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels." Revelation 3:5

What has the Lord Jesus Christ promised unto those who believe in Him? Eternal life, but nothing more!? Search the Scripture and you will find that whatever more has been promised than eternal life, that "more" has been predicated on something extra. As for instance, the person who has left parents, left wife and children, lands or property, in order to serve the Lord, unto such have extras been promised. And again, in chapters 2 and 3 of the Book of Revelation, we find that unto some of the overcomers, extras have been promised.

How much "overcoming" is achieved by playing cards many hours every day? And how much overcoming is achieved by watching a picture show twice a week – a show which may run into two hours or more? ...Consider a person who has smoked one to two packs of cigarettes every day throughout 20 years of his life and eventually becomes convinced that it is ruining his health which will lead to an early grave. He decides to quit, and does quit. After a few months or a year, we could say of him that he has "overcome the cigarette habit." Then, answer me this question: will he then permit himself to spend, let us say, 6 hours every day in a heavily smoke laden room?? Based on that fully correct comparison, I say to you: the Christians who have attained unto overcoming according to Revelation 2 and 3: they have in their hearts sufficient love of the Lord and Savior to not set an example of disregard and worthlessness unto their fellow acquaintances. Neither will such overcomers bear or convey tales to others: tales which tend to discredit a fellow Christian, neither tales which tend to disrupt the labors of a conscientious servant of Jesus Christ.
