"Pray without ceasing." I Thessalonians 5:17

I have also drawn to your attention the increased need for much prayer these days. For, we are coming into "troublous times" and "upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring" (Lk. 21:25). Because of these widespread conditions which shall certainly worsen a great deal, it becomes more important than ever for the believing, born-again Christian to "pray without ceasing." He must not lapse into the psychology, "Oh, what's the use?" He must not imagine that there is some special sin in his life which prevents God from hearing, he must not suspect that God has turned away. Even the most devout among us must not forget that there is still considerable room left for us to draw nearer unto Christ our Lord. Because of that – in these last and trying days – are multitudes among us destined to experience very compressing and trying conditions. Have I not set before you, that shortly before the closing days, agonizing conditions shall beset the Christian believer, even to such extent that many shall cry out, "Lord, carest Thou not that we perish?" Think not that bespeaks "lollipops and pink ice cream"....

But if you are personally concerned – lest you come into those agonizing situations wherein those despairing words ring out – then it is high-time right now (don't you forget it), that you get yourself into the spirit of perpetual prayer. I said "the spirit of." Unless we have nothing else to do, perpetual prayer becomes impossible, but the "spirit of prayer" may be so cultivated as to become very vital in our life.
