II Corinthians 4:5-7
"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."
August 13th
"Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it." Numbers 33:52-53
Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites – seven in all did the Lord mention to Joshua, that He would enable him to drive out. But earlier in the account, Hittites only were mentioned. They were the descendants of Heth (`fear'). FEAR accounts for all of them!
It is man's fear that the Lord is not one's all-sufficiency. To be sure, we need fire insurance, health insurance, life insurance, business insurance; a bomb shelter, a tornado dungeon, preserved food stuffs to last us through the famine or the siege, plus an ever enlarging savings account to see us through "a rainy day"! To most of the devoutest of Christians, "Heth" is ever present: the Lord is not sufficient!!
Yet for that purpose did the Creator incarnate in human flesh that He might prove to us that HE is ever present for our every need. OUT with fear of sickness and disaster; OUT with fear of want and Dante's Inferno; OUT with fear of sickness, decrepitude, and death!
"...I will drive them out before you...only BE THOU STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS!" Exodus 23:30, Joshua 1:7
The "people HASTED to pass over." That was a foreview of the Christian mass-psychology which shall prevail during the 1259 days following the rapture of His Bride-elect. Mental-emotional PRESSURE conditions! Throughout the entire previous life, going to church to socialize and get lulled to sleep, followed by six days of "doing one's own little thing." But as the Beast thunders forward and FEAR stalks the land, FEAR grips the inner being: "HOW can I get into that niche where He approves of me, and there remain?" SUCH shall be the maddening psychology of many in those days. So what is the GOOD WORD today?
SANCTIFY yourself today, that tomorrow you may pass over (Josh. 3:5)!
