II Corinthians 4:5-7

"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:48

That grand objective does not leave us one moment of time to lust after another of the opposite sex. Neither does it leave us as much as one minute of time to harbor hateful thoughts, no, not even the thoughts of resentment! I said, not as much as one moment of time can we give to such matters.

As up to the present moment, we have not come close enough to God to prevent such thought-emotions from entering, but we can certainly cast them out instead of letting them continue. Even in the 10th Commandment, God touched on this selfsame matter by saying "Thou shalt not covet..." (Deut. 5:21).

Even the Glorified Jesus Christ stressed the importance of overcoming in His message unto the seven churches by concluding every message with a covenant unto the overcomer. See to it that you read them through time and again, time and again, until you remember without difficulty all of the seven promises; and there's even an eighth promise which you will find in chapter 21, verse 7. By dwelling much on the numbers involved (1 through 7), you can garner much as to what it is you should strive to overcome.
